VNT: Virtual Network over TRILL (Thomas Stocking, Gandi.net) - With the advent of virtualization, existing network architectures are being strained, especially at scale. Add to this the need for cloud providers to enable secure private connections between VMs in a multi-tennant, highly automated environment, and the solution cost starts to get astronomical. While SDN can provide the kind of centralized management that can take on the problem, a robust open source solution that leverages the existing power of Linux hypervisors like Xen and KVM exists in VNT. Thomas Stocking will provide an overview of the VNT solution, and explain how it works, how it solves the VLAN bottleneck and top-of-rack switch overload issues that plague typical cloud provider networks, and give examples of performance metrics of the solution working at scale, as well as an intro to the code itself.
